Over the years Mike Edwards has built up a select core of associates around the world with high levels of expertise in the commercial, financial, public affairs and legal fields, as well as experts in Internet, digital rights management, CD copy protection and anti-counterfeiting technologies. We have also established associate relationships with some of the most experienced and effective providers of investigative and enforcement services in intellectual property and brand protection.
Mike Edwards combines strong commercial and business experience with equally high level experience in Intellectual Property protection and public affairs. Needless to say, concentration on intellectual property protection in the copyright industries in latter years has also led to a great deal of exposure to the major technological challenges facing intellectual property owners today, and to their solutions.
Six years’ experience with Sony Music in London, New York and Sydney, where he was responsible for business affairs and was chief executive of Sony Music Publishing, Australia provided the foundation for an entrepreneurial career. He subsequently co-founded Timbuktu Records, now part of the Virgin Group, and Flame Tree Management.
Eleven years with the international recording industry body, IFPI, provided high level experience in Intellectual Property enforcement, technology and public affairs. As IFPI’s Director of Operations he was responsible for directing legal and policy aspects of the recording industry’s worldwide anti-piracy operations.
As Chief Executive Officer of CSTH Holdings SA, a start-up company developing a copyright protection systems for the optical disc industry, aimed at customers in music, film, software and computer games, he has acquired first hand experience of developing and commercialising technologies, and managing and financing start up companies in the tech sector.
Mike Edwards has a law degree from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa, and a Masters degree in Law from London School of Economics and Political Science, specialising in intellectual property.
